Iryna Nemyrovych lives in the suburbs of the capital, Kyiv, with her husband and their three-month-old baby, together with their parents and grandparents.
She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme what she heard during the night: "The air raid siren was on for seven hours. So we've heard a number of explosions. We don't know if it was air defence systems or the missiles hitting the infrastructure, but it was pretty loud. And everything repeated a couple more times later."
She explained how they shelter from the missile attacks: "Usually, we go to the basement as we live in a private house. We have our own basement and we just go downstairs. We have some mattresses on the floor and we can stay there.
"But for example, people who live in the city, like my sister, she lives there with her three-year old son. They just go to the hall of the flats, of the apartments, maybe somewhere near the elevators. And they are sleeping as well on the floor."
