WASHINGTON - The euphoria(极度愉快的心情) of 2008 is over: America is in a funk(惊慌,恐惧).
Elected last November on a wave of optimism(乐观主义), President Barack Obama now finds himself governing an increasingly pessimistic(悲观的) country in recession while muscling through(用力前进) Congress a health care reform overhaul(彻底检查) and weighing(掂量) whether to commit more troops to the 8-year-old Afghanistan war.
The latest Associated Press-GfK poll(民意调查) shows that Americans grew slightly more dispirited(沮丧的) on a range of matters over the past month, continuing slippage(下跌) that has occurred since Obama took office(上任) as the year began.
